Gambling - FOBTs another development
2014
We have recently received an update on developments in the ever changing news area of FOBT's (see our article of 4th November: ‘Fixed Odds Betting Terminals - The story continues'). This is an area where councils are also having their say. It is reported that Newham council in east London is set to lead 80 councils in a concerted effort to reduce stakes for these types of machines.
This is supported by Manchester City Council where Councillor Kevin Peel is reported as saying "I'm pleased that we're now joining other councils to pressure the government into reducing the stakes on these addictive casino gaming machines which will reduce the desire of betting shops to open multiple premises in deprived areas in order to maximise their profits from the machines."
The recently published document from Newham Council can be viewed here: ‘Newham's Sustainable Communities Act proposal and betting shop Campaign'.
